My Seagate expansion 2TB external HDD just won’t work on Mac. I’ve tried to repair it in normal mode and recovery mode, run fsck and scan it with Seagate tools to no avail. First Aid gave me the error " file system check exit code is 8."
I have 1.8TB files on it and they are super important. I used EaseUS to recover data but it’s not very reliable. I couldn’t get the files by name and most of them were broken. Is there any fix?
Since you weren’t clear about the actual problem, I assume your Seagate HDD isn’t mounted on Mac, rendering you unable to access your files, right?
The error “file system check exit code is 8” indicates that your drive is likely corrupted. The best course of action right now is recover the 1.8TB files from the disk and then reformat it to fix disk corruption.
If you agree, here’s how to do it:
First, get iBoysoft Data Recovery for Mac to scan the Seagate HDD, recover your files, and store them to another storage devices.
Second, format it with the preferred file system.
Open Disk Utility.
Click View > Show All Devices.
Select the physical disk of your external drive and click Erase.
