Both are valid for backups, buty if want the better one of the two, a SuperDuper clone.
Also, Disk Utility’s feature have changed a lot since the days of macOS 10.4/10.5: It’s more powerful now under High Sierra, but still primarily works through disk images rather than bootable clones.
