I knew better and still messed up…so I am now a candidate for data recovery, and wonder about DIY software instead of hiring that out. Wonder if anyone has opinions or advice on whether to try that myself. With help from OWC tech support, we found from system report that the drive is recognized, but no storage found. Agent concluded that something happened to the OS, which would require re-formatting the drive, erasing all data. Before I begin that, I would of course want to recover the data if possible.
Agent suggested Cleverfiles Disk Drill as a possible solution.
I welcome any opinions before I attempt to solve this on my own. Thanks for responses.
You’re not recommended to perform any data recovery because we users have no knowledge about data recovery at all! The only one way to perform data recovery is to back up your files firmly so that you have a backup at hand when any data loss happens.
What do you mean DIY? You want to recover files by yourself without any data recovery software or expert? If you delete some files to Mac Trash, you can perform the data recovery by Put Back them yourself. If you have a full backup at hand, you can recover the deleted or lost files by yourself. Except in these two cases, data recovery is much difficult unless you get the assistance of a data recovery utility or the help of data recovery expert.
For the deleted file are still in Mac Trash, you can DIY data recovery to restore them back. While for the deleted files emptied from Mac Trash or the files lost with no reason, I guess you should launch the professional data recovery software since you cannot find on your device at all. Some data recovery software provide a free drive scan for the lost files, which allows you to confirm the files are recoverable before purchasing it. So it’s convenient and handy to recover lost files than DIY.
