My SD card is corrupted or damaged. Any recovery program for Mac?

Hello! So, I took some photos and videos yesterday and used my boyfriend's SD adapter to transfer files from the camera to my M1. It worked ok, but I decided to copy the large folder later when I'm back home. Stupid me used a shitty adapter, and I'm quite sure it was what damaged or corrupted the SD card. Now my camera won't read the SD card and recommends formatting it. My father's PC says the same thing, and my MacBook keeps showing, "The disk you attached was not readable by this computer." I tried to repair it with First Aid, but it didn't work. Is there any free or not-so-expensive program or app for this?

“The disk you attached was not readable by this computer. ” can be caused by many reasons. Here are some common ones:

  • The disk isn't formatted.
  • The disk has a file system that's not supported on macOS.
  • The disk is encrypted by BitLocker or third-party tools.
  • The disk is corrupted.
  • The disk is about to fail.

In your case, you likely have the SD formatted as ExFAT or FAT32, which are compatible with both macOS and Windows, right? The SD card is at least supported on macOS, as you used it with your Mac before. Also, it's unlikely encrypted.

You've mentioned that inserting the SD card on your father's PC also suggests a reformat. So, I agree with your conclusion that the SD card is corrupted.
