How do I create an extensionless file on Mac?

I'm attempting to set up the Boot Partition on my Raspberry Pi for headless operation. To activate SSH during the initial boot, it's essential to produce a file without an extension named "ssh" so the software can identify and execute it. However, both Text Editor and CotEditor automatically add a file extension, either .txt or .rtf. Subsequently, I used the command line: ~ cd /volumes/boot ~ touch ssh. Unexpectedly, this led to the generation of an "ssh executable" file. Can anyone help?

It's not uncommon that the created file becomes executable. When you create the file in the directory "/Volumes/boot/ssh", the file's POSIX permissions have the executable bit set. If you don't want the executable bit set, they could change the permissions using the chmod command.

For example, if your file is named ssh, run the command below in Terminal.

chmod -x ssh
