Need data recovery software to recover data from my old external hard drive!

Hi all~ I'm looking for a disk recovery app for my old hard drive. It's been in the closet for about 8 years. Now I want to transfer my old hard drives onto a new SanDisk SSD 2TB external drive. The old disk is a LaCie, 1TB Big Disk (an old spinning-platter type disk). The disk to computer interface works, and I have been able to copy some files over, but the disk seems to be extremely unstable. If one file hangs up, I have to reboot my entire computer, I am also now seeing folders that appear to be empty, but I know they are not. Is there one app in 2021-22 that stands out above the rest to repair bad sectors, directories, and blocks etc?
