Hi! Guys, I was a Windows user before. I was so happy to get a new Apple computer until I wanted to copy some important work files through external hard drive from my old Windows to new Mac. Because I found that I couldn't write to my NTFS drive. But I really need that. Anyone can tell me how to share NTFS external drive between Windows and Mac ? Thanks a lot!

Actually, compatibility issues between Windows and macOS have lasted over years. Even the most advanced version of macOS - macOS Mojave, which has packed with lots of profound features, doesn't fix this flaw. So how to share NTFS external drive between Windows and Mac? With a quick Google search, you may be led to format the drive to FAT32 (File Allocation Table) or use professional software to write to NTFS drive on Mac.

Solution 1: Format NTFS external drive to FAT32

Although FAT32 enjoys nearly universal support including DOS, most versions of Windows (up to and including 8), Mac OS X, and Linux, it has the most intolerable drawback - file and partition size limitations that a size limit of 4 GB maximum file size, 2 TB maximum partition size. So if you have many bulky videos on your NTFS drive, for instance, FAT32 is not a great idea.

Solution 2: Format NTFS external drive to exFAT

Contrary to FAT32, exFAT have no limitation on file size or partition size. But it is not compatible with older operating systems. Mac must be macOS 10.6.5 or newer, and PC need to be Windows Vista SP1, Windows 7 or newer.
