How to change RAW to NTFS without formatting in Windows 7/8/10?

Help! I cannot open one of the partitions in Windows 7 and got the error message: "The drive is not formatted. Do you want to format it now?" I realized it must have something wrong with the partition. This partition stores all my important backup files that I have to get data back. Can anyone help me figure out how to change RAW to NTFS without formatting?

Why do you change RAW to NTFS without formatting in Windows 7/8/10?

Sometimes, a hard disk suddenly becomes RAW and inaccessible. To fix the RAW issue and make the device reusable again, users have to format or change RAW to a recognizable file system, such as converting RAW to NTFS/FAT32.

Formatting is the most effective way to change RAW to NTFS in Windows 7/8/10. However, as you may already know, changing RAW drive to NTFS by formatting will erase all the data stored on the storage devices, which will lead to serious data loss. Thus, it would be perfect if there is any way to change RAW to NTFS without data loss in Windows 7/8/10.

How to change/convert RAW to NTFS without data loss in Windows 7/8/10?

Solution 1: Fix/repair RAW partition/drive via chkdsk /f command

You can try to convert/change RAW to NTFS using CMD, like CHKDSK, to check for bad sectors on the disk and recover any readable information.

step 1: Go to the start menu, type in "cmd" in a search bar.

Step 2: Right click "cmd.exe" and choose "Run as Administrator".

Step 3: Type "chkdsk /X /f the drive letter:" or "chkdsk the drive letter: /f " in the command window to repair RAW drive.

But most of the time, chkdsk /f command seems not to matter. Typically, Windows' chkdsk (check disk) is unable to fix/repair a RAW drive. You will get the message: "The type of the file system is RAW. CHKDSK is not available for RAW drives." It means chkdsk fails to repair the RAW partition.

Solution 2: Use free RAW partition data recovery software

If the RAW partition can't be repaired by chkdsk, the last solution is to reformat the RAW partition. Worry about data loss? Fortunately, you are able to recover lost data from RAW partitions at first.
